Gakenke washing station was established in 1991 and services 2667 farmers. A typical farm in this region has other crops such as bananas and beans grown alongside the coffee trees.  Often having 250 or less coffee plants, farmers in Kayanza almost solely contribute cherries to washing stations.

Once delivered cherries are typically pulped the same day before undergoing 12-24 hours of underwater fermentation. They are then washed and placed on raised beds to dry.

This coffee boasts a rich dried fruit sweetness and citric acidity, resulting in a balanced coffee for all brewing applications.
