Our latest espresso comes from the Mirado Washing Station in Sidama, Ethiopia

Ethiopia season is in full swing at Maker, with our second Ethiopian coffee ready for release! This coffee, roasted for Espresso, is from the Mirado Washing Station in Sidama.

It is named after Mirado, the person who founded the kebele, reflecting the area's local legacy and deep community roots. Coffee is sourced from several nearby villages, including Dambi, Silinga, Sagara, and Kokose. The station is supported by 510 committed coffee suppliers and farmers, who contribute to the production of quality coffee. With its unique positioning and strong community foundation, Mirado plays an important role in the region’s coffee landscape

It's an interesting origin to understand because the station combines the high-altitude growing conditions associated with Sidama specialty coffee with the larger producer-exporter model that has helped put Ethiopian coffees on the international specialty market. The station sources coffee from nearby villages including Dambi, Silinga, Sagara and Kokose.

Mirado Washing Station is operated by Daye Bensa, an export business run by brothers Asefa Dukamo and Mulugeta Dukamo. Asefa Dukamo grew up in a coffee-farming family in Bensa. In 1997, he established his first washing station near his family's farm because local farmers had to travel considerable distances to deliver their cherries. That initial operation developed into the wider Daye Bensa business, co-founded with his younger brother, Mulugeta.

Today, Daye Bensa operates a network of washing stations, dry mills and farms across several districts of Sidama. Its operations span both specialty coffee production and larger-scale export preparation. The company has also won Ethiopia's Cup of Excellence competition in multiple years, including 2020, 2021 and 2022

Mirado washing station process their natural coffees with the whole cherry dried before hulling. The producer reports drying times of approximately 14–16 days. This process typically encourages more fruit-forward and fermentation-influenced flavours than a conventional washed lot, although the actual profile depends on cherry maturity, drying and fermentation management. This lot, roasted for espresso, highlights the fruit-forward notes of Strawberry and Pomegranate while having a Toffee-like sweetness that rounds off a sweet and rich flavour profile.

Mirado is now available online and in all Maker venues,
